Classes and Events Offered by Health in Motion Physical Therapy
This style of yoga is gentle and supported, using a sequence of exercises for positional release of connective tissue tensions caused by excessive sympathetic nervous system activity. These tensions compress and misalign the body with resultant decreased awareness and neuromotor control, and efficiency of movement.
Svaroopa Yoga Improves: Breath & Body Awareness Postural Alignment Biomechanics Neuromotor Control Relaxation Pain
Support equals release. Increased performance, competition, and increased effort are discouraged.
Weightbearing into the bones facilitate release.
Sequence is significant. Exercises begin at the bottom of the spine and move upward.
Neuromotor control of breath and the abdominal muscles are emphasized.

Qigong-Ancient Wisdom for Today's World
What is Qigong? You may have heard of Tai chi, a form of qigong. Qigong (working with vital energy in and around us) is as big as nature itself and defined broadly as “energy practice.” The exploration of energy work in China is thousands of years old, and forms the early basis for Chinese medicine as well as Chinese martial arts. As the ancient philosophers considered the factors that affect human health and longevity, they understood that humans are part of nature and participate in the energy patterns of the universe. In studying the workings of the universe, they came to understand the repetitive patterns of the universe, and related those patterns to the workings of the human body. They developed methods of keeping the body and mind strong.
Maureen Bright, Certified Healing Qigong Teacher with the Ling Gui International Healing Qigong School since 2005, offers qigong to our community here at Health in Motion. She offers classes (including classes for children ages 7 and up) and practice sessions. Individual classes are available by appointment. Home visits (for the homebound - including parents, prenatal and postnatal families and seniors) are also an option.
